Why up to 70% of innovations in industry fail to fulfill their potential

Innovation is the engine of industry – but it does not always bring the expected effect. Many companies invest in modern technologies that are ultimately not used or do not bring the expected benefit. The reason is not the technology itself, but the way it is prepared and implemented. We talked about these challenges at the Newmatec 2025 conference and also during the webinar "Innovation does not work without a change in thinking", the recording of which is still available online.

When innovations fail in the details

We know from experience that even the most advanced solutions can fail due to unexpected details. Sometimes it’s a technical limitation – for example, the wrong choice of materials or an environment in which the system does not function optimally. Other times, the problem lies in the decisions made in the project preparation – for example, when planning is done without consulting the technology integrator and later it is necessary to invest in repairs.

It also happens that companies get carried away by trends and introduce solutions that no one uses in practice. Or employees resist new technologies because they do not understand their benefits. The common denominator of all these situations is insufficient preparation, communication and understanding of the goal.

Trust and mindset as the basis for success.

Technology is only part of the equation. If people don’t see the point of change, they will accept new solutions with distrust or apprehension. Therefore, team involvement, clarity of purpose, and open communication are key to ensuring that innovation is not perceived as a threat, but as an opportunity. Successful innovation begins with a change in mindset – openness, trust, and a willingness to adapt processes.

The data speaks clearly

Up to 70% of innovations in industry fail to meet their potential. Of these, 45% go over budget, 17% run over schedule, and 56% fail to deliver the expected results. The most common causes? Lack of team synchronization with project goals (78%) and underestimation of project complexity (35%).

Where is automation heading?

Automation will continue to grow. Integration is often more expensive than the robot itself today, and humanoid robots are already on the horizon. Therefore, we will continue to focus on how to connect technology, processes and people so that innovation brings real results. M2M Solutions will be there.
